The Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Navi Mumbai rescued a 15-year-old girl from Bamandongri in Ulwe within six hours of receiving a message from a Delhi-based NGO.

The Navi Mumbai Commissioner’s office received an email on Friday around noon from Shakti Vahini informing them of a teenager from Kolkata kidnapped on June 9. “The email said, the accused convinced the girl that he would get her a job in Navi Mumbai and took her away without the consent of her parents following which they registered a case of kidnapping in Kolkata,” senior police inspector Arjun Garad from AHTU said. The email said the victim had contacted some friends and using the technical information, her location was traced to Bamandongri,

“We found her at Nilesh Mhatre chawl at Sector 19. When questioned, she said she reached Navi Mumbai on June 11 with one Habibmulla Anchar Molla (28),” Mr Garad said. The girl’s friend Ashraful Shoeb Molla told her to accompany Mr. Habibmulla to Mumbai for a job. The victim said she was made to do household work in several houses in Ulwe. The AHTU unit detained and produced Habibmulla before Panvel court on Saturday. They secured a transit remand and will hand him and the girl to the Kolkatta police.
