Kharghar drowning: fourth body found

L&T officials spot corpse in Ulwe creek

The body of the fourth student who drowned near the Pandavkada waterfall in Kharghar on Saturday was found in Ulwe creek on Monday. The bodies of the other three were recovered the same day.

Neha Dama (18) from Koparkhairane was one of the seven students of SIES, Nerul, who had gone for a picnic after bunking college.

Coastal alert

Senior police inspector Tanvir Shaikh, NRI Coastal police station, said, “The Kharghar police had asked us to keep a watch on creeks in our jurisdiction. We had alerted fishermen, but due to heavy rain no fisherman went into the water. We had also alerted companies that are developing coastal areas. Around 2 a.m. on Monday, officials from Larsen and Toubro, which is working on a sea link, called us to say they had noticed a body in Ulwe creek. The girl’s relatives identified the body at NMMC Hospital, Vashi.”

Neha’s mother had last spoken to her around 7.30 a.m. on Saturday, when she said she was 10 minutes away from the college. After that, she did not call Neha as students are not allowed to use mobile phones on the college campus. The next she heard was the news of her daughter drowning with her friends.
