Indrani not suffering from dengue: doctor

The doctors attending to Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, at the J.J. Hospital on Thursday said that she was not suffering from dengue.

The 43-year-old former media executive was brought to the state-run facility from Byculla Women’s prison on Wednesday after her platelet levels dropped. Hospital Dean T.P. Lahane told PTI that though Indrani’s platelet count has dipped, she has not been diagnosed with dengue.

Her tests (for dengue) are negative, he said.

After hospitalisation, her platelet level has improved considerably, Dr. Lahane said, adding that a dip in platelet level may occur sometimes due to fever and not necessarily dengue.

He said a decision on Indrani’s discharge will be taken this evening.

On Wednesday, prison authorities informed a Magistrate Court that Indrani was suspected to have dengue as her platelet count went down to 65,000.

Magistrate R.V. Adone had directed the prison authorities to produce Indrani in view of the application made by CBI seeking her voice samples.
