Mumbai: A banker from Andheri was in for a pleasant surprise on Satuday when the driver of the autorickshaw he forgot his laptop in made sure he got it back.

Officers at Govandi police station said Jagannath Ramanan, branch officer at IndusInd Bank’s Nerul branch, hailed the autorickshaw at Andheri and alighted in Punjabwadi, Chembur on Friday afternoon. However, he forgot his bag containing his laptop and office keys in the auto, and realised this much later.

Senior PI Uttam Kolekar, Govandi police station, said, “When Mr. Ramanan approached us, we viewed CCTV footage of the area where he alighted and got license plate number of the auto. We circulated it on our wireless network.”

On Saturday morning, the auto driver, Ashutosh Shukla, walked into the police station with the bag. Mr. Shukla told the police that a fare he had taken to Chembur had forgotten his bag, and he thought it best to turn it in to the police. “We contacted Mr. Ramanan, and he identified the bag as his own. All its contents were intact,” Mr. Kolekar added.

The police subsequently organised a felicitation programme in the police station on Saturday afternoon, where Mr. Shukla was honoured by DCP (Zone VI) Shahaji Umap.
