Says one should never lose hope and be cautious on social media sites

Six years after he left home to be with a female friend he had connected with on Facebook, 33-year-old Hamid Ansari finally returned to Mumbai on Thursday.

At his residence in Andheri, an emotional Hamid Ansari was welcomed by his family and a few relatives, as curious neighbours watched.

Moments after Mr. Ansari entered his house, he broke down. The family then offered read namaaz. “Ab voh aa gaya hai, dawat toh banti hai (his return calls for a feast)!” Hamid’s mother exclaimed.

Mr. Ansari said he did not wish to revisit the memories of the past any longer. “One must be cautious on social media, always think about your parents and never disobey them, and never lose hope however tough the situation gets,” he said.

Love on Facebook

In November 2012, Mr. Ansari had run away to Pakistan to meet a woman he had befriended on Facebook.

Two days after his arrival in Pakistan via Afghanistan, he was arrested. In 2015, a Pakistani court sent him to jail for three years.
