GRP bust fatka gang near GTB Nagar; 2 minors detained

The Wadala Government Railway Police (GRP) have detained two minors and arrested two persons for allegedly running a fatka operation near Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Nagar station on the Harbour Line.

All four are residents of a slum settlement in Antop Hill and know each other. The minors aged 17 and 16 years have been sent to the Dongri remand home. The other two were identified as Mohmmad Shafi (20) and Ameen Khan (20).

According to police officials, on October 4, they had registered a complaint from a man who was targeted by the gang, a little before GTB Nagar station. “We received a tip-off on October 6 that four persons known locally as ‘Ameen’, ‘Asif’, ‘Imma’ and ‘Salim’ had been hitting people on trains and snatching their phones. We sent a search party and found them along the tracks on the same day,” a police official said.

One phone was recovered from the accused on the spot and two more upon questioning. “They had in fact discarded one of the phones, because the screen had broken after falling on the tracks. They had thrown it inside the adjacent basti. When we went to the spot, we found that phone. Now we are trying to track the location of the owners and other phones that may have been stolen by the accused,” an official said.
