Mumbai: Gangster Arun Gawli will be in the city on Monday for his mother’s funeral. His mother Laxmi died of interstitial lung disease at Jaslok Hospital on Saturday. Mr. Gawli was granted parole on Thursday in light of his mother’s ill health and was due to be released on Sunday.

“We will wait for daddy. The funeral will take place on Monday depending on when he arrives,” said Mr. Gawli’s daughter Geeta, a corporator. The body will be cremated at Worli crematorium in all likelihood. Virendra Mishra, DCP, zone III, said, “We have received no information from prison authorities about parole granted to Mr. Gawli. As of now, it has not been given. Normally in such cases, the prisoner is allowed to remain present for the last rites, but we cannot comment until we receive an official order,” he said.
