The Mumbai Police have booked four teenagers for allegedly gang-raping a 15-year-old schoolmate, recording a video of the sexual assault and using it to blackmail her into silence.

One of the accused shared the video with a friend, after which it went viral in the locality. The police are now holding talks with the locals to discourage them from sharing it further.

The incident happened on the evening of November 8 in the house of one of the accused. Police said one of the boys called the victim to his house, offering to help her with her studies. The accused and the victim are residents of the same locality. The victim, in her statement, told the police that all the four accused were waiting for her when she reached the house. They shot a video of the gang-rape and threatened to make it public.

Officials said one of the accused shared the video with his friend on WhatsApp, and within days the video went viral in the locality. A relative of the girl came across the video and spoke to the victim, who then opened up.

“As soon as the victim approached us, we sent teams to the residences of all the four accused and brought them to the police station. They were booked and sent to the juvenile remand home in Dongri. We are questioning them,” said Senior Police Inspector Shashank Sandbhor of the Malad station.
