Mumbai: The State government on Friday paid tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away on August 16, in the presence of senior government, police, court officials, and dignitaries from consulates.

Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, who represented the State, as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was in Delhi to attend the last rites of Mr. Vajpayee, said the former PM’s inspirational and patriotic thoughts will remain with them forever.

“His thoughts were inspiring. His patriotic speech flowed like the river Ganga. He followed one principle in his life and that was, ‘never be afraid of death, but beware of disrepute’. We too are working today with the similar motto,” Mr. Mungantiwar said. The minister said Mr. Vajpayee was one of the bravest sons of India. “He never saw India as a piece of land, but called it a living individual.”
