Navi Mumbai

A major fire broke out on the 14th floor of Meridien Society in Sector 6 in Nerul at 11.30 p.m. on Thursday.

Fire brigade officials said scaffoldings erected for repair work caught fire. Two rooms of a flat belonging to Satish Gowda went up in flames. The fully-furnished flat was unoccupied as Mr. Gowda is staying in another housing society on Palm Beach Road in Nerul.

Residents were evacuated, and power was cut off to the building and neighbouring buildings. Two fire tenders reached the spot by midnight. Firefighting operations were on and no casualties were reported at the time of going to press.
