Navi Mumbai: A fire was reported on a CIDCO plot in Nerul off Palm Beach Road on Monday, making it the fourth incident in the area within 10 days. “This is a deliberate attempt by someone to clear the land of dry grass,” a fire official from Nerul fire station said.

Activist Anirban Chauhan said, “It is high time the CIDCO put up wired barricades and increase security in this area. The NMMC should install closed circuit television cameras.” Around two acres of land with dry grass is suspected to have been damaged in the blaze.

In another incident, Ranjit Kumar Singh (45) died after an explosion at a chemical factory in Taloja. Emmesar Biotech and Nutrition Ltd company caught fire at 8 a.m.. “The reason of the fire is not known yet,” an officer from Taloja police station said.

Similarly, the data centre of the CIDCO on the first floor of CIDCO Bhavan in CBD Belapur caught fire at 7.20 a.m. All the computer servers, files, documents, and furniture were destroyed.

“The cause of fire is suspected to be a short circuit,” a fire officer from Belapur said.
