Mumbai: A fire was reported in a residential building in Nagpada on Saturday evening. Officials said there were no casualties.

The police said the fire broke out in a reseidence on the second floor of the Haji Kasam building at the Nagpada junction at around 6 p.m. on Saturday.

“We got a call about a level-two fire and sent four fire tenders to the spot. The fire was brought under control within the hour. The occupants of the house had escaped before the fire intensified and hence no one was injured,” a fire official said.

The Nagpada police sent a team into the house to conduct inquiries along with fire officials. The police said the cause of the fire is not clear as yet, although prima facie it seems to have been caused by a short circuit. “The fire brigade will send us a report on their findings within a few days, and based on that we will decide if there are grounds to register a criminal case of any kind. A station diary entry has been made for the moment,” a police official said.
