The Rabale police arrested a Federal Bank employee on Thursday for cheating his neighbour of ₹2 lakh. The accused, Rajendra Dhayalkar (45), introduced himself as the manager of the Federal Bank branch in Mulund to the complainant, Dattatrey Bhise, when they were neighbours at Chinchali in Ghansoli village.

Sub-inspector Sachin Powar said, “Mr. Dhayalkar told Mr. Bhise that he has been the bank’s manager for 10 years and could help him secure a flat in the bank’s possession at a reduced price.” The accused then showed him a flat worth ₹18 lakh in Radha Residency in Kalyan. He asked Mr. Bhise to pay ₹2 lakh upfront for the flat.

Personal loan

Mr. Bhise took a personal loan and paid the amount last year. When Mr. Dhayalkar asked for the remaining amount, Mr. Bhise demanded to see the papers of the flat. Mr. Dhayalkar then started ignoring him. Later, Mr. Dhayalkar got transferred to Khed and Mr. Bhise went there to meet him. Mr. Dhayalkar didn’t entertain him and denied that he knew him.

“After realising that he had been cheated, Mr. Bhise approached us and filed a complaint. We then arrested the accused,” Mr. Powar said. The accused was produced before the court on Thursday and has been remanded in police custody till May 23.
