Accused give up robbery attempt after failing to open locker

Three men arrested by Taloja police on Thursday morning for creating nuisance after drinking turned out to be wanted by Kharghar police for breaking into Canara Bank on Wednesday midnight.

The accused have been identified as Irshad Ali Hassan Mansoori (20), a resident of Sector 33, Kharghar; Rohit Ravindra More (22), a resident of Sector 8, CBD Belapur; and Mukesh Mukya Aade (20), a resident of Sector 4 in Kharghar.

On Wednesday night, the three got drunk and decided to break into a bank. They broke open the shutter of the Canara Bank branch at Sector 30 in Owa village of Kharghar.

Police Sub Inspector Nitin Shinde said, “The accused, however, could not find a way to open the main locker. They then stole the DVR machine of the CCTV camera, but threw it near a nullah once they got out.” The accused then broke into a fight and were nabbed by a patrolling team of Taloja police for creating public nuisance.

On Thursday morning, the Kharghar police learnt about the break-in at Canara Bank and launched an investigation. An informer told them about the involvement of Mansoori and launched a hunt for him. They then found out that the Taloja police had nabbed him and his friends for creating a nuisance in a drunken state. A team from Kharghar police then nabbed the trio.

The police said Mansoori drove an autorickshaw by night, while Aade worked as a painter. More, who had been in jail in Delhi for four years, joined the gang after he was released eight days ago. Mr. Shinde said, “We have been remanded in police custody till Monday. The DVR machine abandoned by them was recovered on Friday evening.”
