Qawwali as a form is said to have originated within India from the Sufi practices of Amir Khusro.
It is a form of devotional music which is predominantly popular in South Asia: in the Punjab and Sindh regions of Pakistan; in Hyderabad, Delhi and other parts of India, especially north India; as well as Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet and parts of Bangladesh. The Urdu Mehfil celebrates and discusses the musical form of qawwali with several examples from the masters themselves. Entry is free.
