Mumbai: The funeral of Mustafa Dossa, convicted in the 1993 serial bomb blasts, will most likely be on Thursday after the morning prayers are concluded around 7 am, at the south Mumbai Bada Qabrastan, according to an associate of the gangster.
Dossa’s son Owais is expected to reach Mumbai from Dubai by late evening on Wednesday. Owais is one of three children Dossa had with his second wife Sufia. He had two children with first wife Hafiza, who died.
According to his older son Shahnawaz, who was at the JJ Hospital where his father was being treated since midnight on Tuesday, “Even when his medical condition deteriorated in jail last night the police did not inform us. It was two other jail inmates who informed the family about his medical situation. Even at the JJ Hospital, our family was not allowed to meet him in his final moments. We were told that we need to seek the permission from the jail authorities before we would be allowed to meet him.” He said that even after seeking permission, they were not permitted to meet him. Shahnawaz said that Dossa had been feeling uneasy after a court hearing on Tuesday, and the presiding judge, G.A. Sanap, had advised he be admitted for treatment. Dossa rejected the recommendation, saying that when he had to die anyway, why would he want to be admitted to hospital?
Shahnawaz said that before Dossa’s conviction, “He told me that he had surrendered in order to return to India as he believed he was innocent and would be able to secure justice from the Indian judicial system in which he had immense faith. He said that he had a Pakistani passport as well which was in the possession of the CBI. However, the CBI did not produce this even once before the special court.”
