A doctor with the Cooper Hospital, who forgot a musical instrument in an autorickshaw earlier this week, was pleasantly surprised after the Juhu police found it within two days.
Dr Sunit Zadav, who is also a singer and songwriter, forgot his ukelele, an instrument similar to a guitar, in an autorickshaw on July 11. He filed a police report regarding it on July 14. The police used the city-wide CCTV camera network for clues. “We also talked to around 200 autorickshaw drivers who ply on the route before finding the one we needed,” senior police inspector Pandharinath Wavhal said.
On Thursday, the police handed the instrument back to Dr. Zadav, who then expressed his happiness on Twitter. “Congratulations to the Detection Centre of Juhu Police Station, @mumbaipolice for their super efficient job in locating and recovering my guitar that I forgot in the back of a rickshaw last Thursday. Special thanks to Police Inspector Biradar and his subordinates. I salute you (sic),” he tweeted.
He told The Hindu on Friday, “The belief about our police force lacking capabilities to solve any case at a fast pace is a myth. They were very kind and patient. But I feel that they are overworked and underpaid at the same time, and that this needs to be corrected.”
The police also felicitated the autorickshaw driver for his cooperation.
Another tweet from Dr Zadav read, “Senior Inspector Vavhal and his staff from Juhu Police Station, @MumbaiPolice felicitating the auto-rickshaw driver who returned the guitar I forgot in his vehicle. He was also compensated with a cash reward. What a lovely way to promote honesty in the community! Bravo! (sic).”
The police, too, tweeted about the incident later, saying, “Sunit Zadav, a doctor in the Cooper hospital, forgot his valuable ukelele in an auto rickshaw. He reached out to the Juhu police station to find his priced possession and it was literally music to his ears when he was informed in just two days that his guitar had been found (sic).”
