Summer takes a toll: The monkey was sitting in the same place for four days as it was too weak to move.

A weak and dehydrated adult female monkey, was rescued by the Plant Animal Welfare Society (PAWS-Mumbai) from Chembur after receiving a call on their helpline on Sunday.

An official from the NGO said they received a call from a local resident who had spotted a monkey that hadn’t moved in four days. “The monkey was sitting in the same place for four days. It was very weak and couldn’t move. We reached the spot and rescued the animal at 10.28 p.m.,” said Sunish Subramanian Kunju, secretary of PAWS-Mumbai.

He said extreme heat and lack of food must have caused the monkey to become weak. “We informed the Range Forest Office and handed over the monkey to them at 11:21 p.m. the same night. It was later admitted to a veterinary hospital for treatment,” he said.
