A Defence Security Corps guard committed suicide at his workplace in Trombay on Thursday morning.

According to the Trombay police, the incident occurred at the Naval Armament Depot around 11.15 a.m. Kesar Singh (56) was posted as a guard at the depot and was on duty when he allegedly killed himself. Singh was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead before admission.

“We have not found any suicide note on Singh’s person and in his barracks. He had applied for leave, which was sanctioned, and he was supposed to go to his home town in Punjab on Friday. Inquiries have also not revealed any other problems that he might have been facing at work or in his personal life,” police inspector Haribhau Bankar, Trombay police station, said.

The body was taken to JJ Hospital for post-mortem, and his family in Punjab has been informed, officers said. The Defence department has also initiated an internal inquiry into the matter.

“Investigations so far have not revealed any indications of foul play. We have registered an accidental death report,” Mr. Bankar said.
