Dangling rod disrupts WR services

Train services on the Western Railway were affected on Thursday afternoon after an iron rod was found dangling from a bridge near Andheri station.

The bridge is located next to Gokhale bridge, which collapsed on July 2, killing one and injuring several people. The fast line to Churchgate remained shut for 30 minutes and other services were delayed by 20 minutes. Fourteen suburban services were cancelled and 50 were delayed.

The incident led to bunching of fast services and commuters climbing off trains stuck between Andheri and Jogeshwari and walking on the tracks. Officials removed the rod after cutting the power supply to the overhead cables at 12.25 p.m. for 14 minutes.

A WR official said, “Fast trains from Jogeshwari to Vile Parle were suspended, services to Churchgate were diverted to the slow track from Goregaon, and fast trains to Borivali and Virar ran on the slow track from Santacruz.”
