Navi Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday produced a witness attached to the Narendra Dabholkar murder case, at CBD Belapur court. The witness from Aurangabad, who is said to be known to accused Sachin Andure, was first brought to the court on Friday evening. As there was no electricity and the court hours were getting over, Magistrate R.S. Kulkarni asked officials to produce the witness on Monday.

The statement was recorded in the magistrate’s chamber for two-and-a-half hours. According to a source, the statement was recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The statement will be produced by the CBI before the HC when they will submit their status report in the first week of September.

“The witness knows Mr. Andure, who is the main shooter. Being afraid, he had been divulging details in bits and pieces, and finally told whatever he knew which was recorded. He was not present during the shooting and neither was he involved in any way. The statement will play a major role during the trial,” the source said.

When contacted, Nandakumar Nair, SP, CBI, said, “I cannot speak to the media.”
