Vashi police have booked a Sanpada-based businessman and a woman on charges of theft, adultery, unnatural sex and assault after a court ordered an investigation into a Vashi mariner’s complaint.

The complainant had approached Vashi police on April 20, a day after his wife left home with valuables. When the police failed to take any action, he moved the court on May 22.

Sudhakar Pathare, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone I, said, “A non-cognisable offence of adultery was lodged on May 18. In case of unnatural sex, the woman is usually the victim and should be the one lodging the complaint, so we asked the complainant to tell his wife to do so. After we received an order from the magistrate’s court, we registered the first information report.”

The complainant’s 38-year-old wife and the businessman, who she met in a local gymnasium, were booked under the relevant sections on June 15, a day after the court’s order was received. According to the complaint filed in court, the mariner, who runs a marine academy in Navi Mumbai, found out that his wife had indulged in adultery when he found boarding pass of his wife and the businessman for a Mumbai-Delhi flight in her purse on February 27. “The complainant got suspicious and got his wife’s phone checked in a forensic laboratory. He found 32 GB data, including photos and videos of his wife and the second accused. The videos and photos have revealed that the duo indulged in adultery and unnatural sex,” an officer from Vashi police said.

The complainant soon confronted his wife and sought a divorce. On April 19, the wife left the complainant’s house with their six-year-old daughter and nine-year-old son. The complainant has claimed that his wife left home after stealing valuables worth ₹55 lakh belonging to his mother and him. He also accused the businessman of being involved in the theft.

“The case was registered after the magistrate’s court directed us to do so. We are investigating the evidence and CCTV footage and are yet to arrest anyone,” the officer said.
