The Parksite police on Monday arrested a 23-year-old corporate executive for allegedly raping a 36-year-old woman at his Vikhroli residence in the early morning.

The accused has been identified as Aditya Bhaumik (23), a resident of Wadhwa Towers in Parksite. The police said Mr. Bhaumik and the victim were known to each other and had worked in collaboration several times in the past.

“The victim had known the accused for the last six months. They used to work together and meet often on a social basis. On Sunday night, they went to Lower Parel along with two other friends and were together till late at night, after which Mr. Bhaumik and the victim went to his residence,” senior police inspector Kalpana Pawar, Parksite police station, said.

An officer who is part of the investigating team said around 4 a.m., the victim woke up to use the bathroom and Mr. Bhaumik allegedly forced himself on her at the time. He then dropped her at her Malad residence a couple of hours later.

“The victim told her parents about the incident. Mr. Bhaumik is also known to her parents. After discussing the matter with them, the victim first approached the Malad police, where an FIR was registered and then it was transferred to us,” Ms. Pawar said.

The police picked up Mr. Bhaumik from his residence and charged him with rape under the Indian Penal Code. The victim has been sent for medical tests and inquiries into the incident are under way, officers said.
