Congress gears up for bypolls in Goa

The Congress has decided to finalise booth and ward level committees by January 20 to prepare for bypolls to the Mandrem and Shiroda Assembly seats in Goa, and the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

At a meeting of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Tuesday, chief spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar said, “Congress president Rahul Gandhi is expected to visit Goa by the end of the month to address ward and booth presidents.”

Bypolls were necessitated after two Congress MLAs, Dayanand Sobte (Mandrem) and Subhash Shirodkar (Shiroda), joined the BJP in October.
