Cockroach menace at Sion Hospital

A severe cockroach menace in the BMC-run Sion Hospital’s post-natal ward has angered patients and their relatives. Videos showing several tiny cockroaches in the patient lockers were circulated on Tuesday.

“We have to sleep with cotton in our ears. These babies are just two-three days old. Who will take the responsibility if the cockroach enters their ears or nose?” asked a new mother admitted to the ward. On Monday, local corporator Ashraf Azmi visited the hospital after receiving complaints.

Dean Dr. Jayashree Mondkar said one of the lockers did have a lot of cockroaches. “We are removing all the lockers. The ward will then be fumigated,” Dr Mondkar said. She said patients have a habit of storing leftover food in the lockers, and that the cleaning staff strength has been lean due to Ganeshotsav.
