The U.S. Consulate General on Wednesday celebrated the exchange of students between India and the United States on the the fourth annual Student Visa Day where alumni were invited to share stories and experiences from their academic lives. At a function held at the U.S. Consulate General at the Bandra-Kurla Complex, over 4,000 Indian students were invited to apply for visas to study in the U.S.
Consul General Edgard Kagan said, “I see that beyond the tremendous value to each student, international educational exchange plays a central role in the U.S.-India relationship. Student exchanges between the two countries help to strengthen the foundation upon which our strategic partnership is built.”
Devyani Donde, an undergraduate information technology student at the University of Toledo, Ohio, said education in the U.S. was “diverse and motivating, practical and research-based,” and the infrastructure was world-class. “The professors assist me towards my goals by providing global exposure. I get a chance to be involved in various on-campus activities and represent my university at conferences and meetings.”
Bhavana Jhadav, mother of Anshuli Jadhav, who studies at Stony Brook University, Long Island, said, “It is a moment of pride and we thank the officials who simplified the process for us. Like every parent, I was concerned about the safety of my child but on the day of the orientation, we were informed well about measures taken by the University.”
Tanushka Bali, Senior EducationUSA advisor at United States-India Educational Foundation said, “We have seven centres in India, a website and a helpline number that serves as the official source of accurate, current and comprehensive information that guides students in the right direction.”
