A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Monday allowed Sheena Bora murder accused, Peter Mukerjea, to be shifted to a private hospital for treatment, after he suffered a mild heart attack.
Mr. Mukerjea has been lodged at the Arthur Road jail since November 19, 2015 and was admitted to J.J. Hospital on March 16 after he had complained of chest pain.
An ECG carried out in the jail suggested some abnormality due to which he was shifted to the state-run JJ hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
On Monday, Mr. Mukerjea’s lawyers moved an application before the court seeking permission to admit him to a private hospital of his choice.
They submitted a report by J.J. Hospital’s medical team stating that Mr. Mukerjea suffered a mild heart attack, and that there were four blockages in his three main arteries.
Special Judge J.C. Jagdale allowed Mr. Mukerjea to be admitted to a private hospital under police escort.
Meanwhile, a J.J. Hospital doctor told The Hindu an angiography carried out on Monday revealed Mr. Mukerjea had a severe coronary artery disease. “He is currently on blood thinners,” he said.
