Eight people from Pune had a lucky escape after the driver of their car lost control of the vehicle and it fell into a 25-feet-deep valley on the Mumbai-Pune expressway on Saturday. The driver and the eight passengers were taken to MGM hospital in Kalamboli. The driver managed to flee before getting his name registered at the hospital.
Assistant police inspector Subhash Pujari from Palaspa traffic police said, “Since he didn’t get admitted to hospital, we do not know his name. Once the injured give their statement, we can know more details about the driver.”
The accident took place around 2.45 p.m. when the family of eight from Hadapsar were heading to Dadar. On reaching a turn, the driver lost control of the speeding Ertiga and entered the third lane from the first lane. It crashed through a barricade and rolled down into the valley.
Two are serious and have been identified as Mandakini Deshmukh (28) and Rukmini Devale (65). The other injured have been identified as Anand Deshmukh (29), Shivraj Deshmukh (28), Bhikaji Deshmukh (25), Rani Kore (40), Lahu Kore (45) and Jyoti Devale (30).
