Emmanuel Jarus, a Canadian artist known for colour and figure compositions that fit the walls and surroundings along the streets and landmarks of cities in Canada, the United States and Mexico, has just given finishing touches to his work on a Mahim street.

The Consulate General of Canada in collaboration with St+art India Foundation, got Mr. Jarus to Mumbai under a public art initiative aimed at getting people to explore the area and bring in footfalls. Mr. Jarus painted from November 13 to 21.

In association with the Brihanamumbai Municipal Corporation, St+art India Foundation is working to establish a public art district in Mahim.

The Mahim (E) Art District was commission in 2017 with works by Indian artists. Over the next few months, St+art India Foundation will be bringing some of the biggest international names to Mahim (East).

‘Realistic portraits’

In a statement, the office of the Consulate General of Canada in Mumbai said Mr. Jarus was recognised for his realistic portraits and his skill was revealed by the smooth play of light and shadow, particularly noticeable on the faces of his subjects.

Consul General for Canada in Mumbai, Annie Dubé, said, “Canada is thrilled to be collaborating with St+art India Foundation on this very innovative project in Mumbai. We are proud to help bring Jarus for this collaboration. India and Canada share a strong friendship and this will surely be a great example of the further strengthening of cultural and artistic ties between our two countries.”

Arjun Bahl, Festival Director, St+art India Foundation said, “We are very excited to work with Asian Paints and BMC on the continuation of the Mahim Art District, which we started last year.”
