Volkswagen India has entered the fastest growing compact sedan segment with Ameo, which has been designed specifically for the Indian market.

The company, on Wednesday, rolled out this model from its manufacturing facility at Chakan near Pune.

Ameo will be introduced in the market around July and the company is yet to announce the price. Developed on the Polo platform, Ameo will be available in two fuel options and is targeted at the youth. This car will compete with Maruti Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and Tata Zest.

“This day marks an important event in the journey of Volkswagen in India. The Ameo symbolises yet another first as it has specifically been created for the Indian customer,” said Dr. Andreas Lauermann, president & Managing Director, Volkswagen India. “We will be manufacturing 150 Ameos a day. With this, our daily production capacity will go up to 550 cars a day. This year, we expect a 15 per cent increase in production and we have a capacity to manufacture 200,000 cars a year,” Mr. Lauermann said.
