Criminal’s house raided, Rs 1.42 cr recovered

In a major haul, Rs 1.42 crore was recovered from the residence of two accused in an abduction case, police said on Sunday.

Last week, the Crime Branch, while investigating the abduction of city businessman Ajay Rout, who was later released, raided the house of notorious criminal Raju Vitthalrao Bhadre (38) and his aide Diwakar Baban Kotulwar (31), Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Ranjan Kumar Sharma said. Cash worth Rs 1.42 crore was recovered, he added.

The police had earlier recovered Rs 2.40 lakh in cash and two cars from the other accused, he said.

The Crime Branch took Bhadre, who was brought to the place during the raid, and Kotulwar into custody and arrested five others, the DCP said.

Bhadre had surrendered before a local court on December 20, 2015 and has been lodged in the Central Prison here since. Last week, he was charged under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), he said. Slapping of MCOCA implies Bhadre can’t seek bail in a murder case against him, he said. — PTI
