The Panvel Taluka police arrested the driver of a Shivshahi bus for allegedly running over a pedestrian near Karnala on Mumbai-Goa Highway on Saturday.

Around 9.15 a.m., 55-year-old Lahu Ambu Darvada, a resident of Chirner, was crossing the road near Kalle bus stop, when a speeding Shivshahi bus travelling from Alibaug to Panvel crushed him to death. Following the accident, nearby residents protested on the road, blocking it for close to one hour. “After bringing the crowd under control, we picked up the bus driver,” senior police inspector Ashok Rajput from Panvel Taluka police station said.

The driver, Pradeep Pandurang Romade (54), has been arrested under Sections 304A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving) of the IPC and under the Motor Vehicle Act.
