Awareness workshops are being held across schools in the city to educate youngsters on how to dispose off plastic waste as part of Bottles for Change, an initiative by Bisleri and supported by The Hindu in School.

As part of the campaign, students are encouraged to gather used, clean plastic items from their homes and neighbourhood and drop them in special green bins placed in their schools.

The plastic will be collected by Bisleri’s waste pickers and NGO partners and converted to recycled polyester, which will be used to produce shoes, T-shirts and bags. Students who contribute the most number of used plastic items in the collection drive will be awarded certificates and trophies.

Workshops to train students in plastic disposal and recycling methods were held at MKES High School in Malad on December 7, at Children’s Academy in Kandivali on December 8, and at Our Lady of Health High School in Andheri (East) on December 10. Workshops are scheduled to be held at St. Xavier’s High School in Borivali on December 19 and St. Lawrence School in Borivali on December 20.
