The body of a man in his 30s was found in a drain in Nallasopara on Friday evening.

According to the police, a local resident came across a foul-smelling green nylon bag in a sewage drain near Pelhar road. The passer-by reported the matter to an on-duty constable in Santoshbhavan police chowky, after which a team was sent to the spot.

Police inspector Daniel Ben, Tulinj police station, said, “Preliminary investigations have established that the body is of a 30 to 35-year-old man. He was hit on his head with a heavy object and the culprit seems to have dumped the body in the drain with the intention of destroying evidence.”

Based on circumstantial evidence, the police have registered an FIR of murder and attempt to destroy evidence against unknown persons under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The police are now viewing the CCTV camera footage around the drain and conducting inquires in the surrounding areas.

“We are also seeking information about any men in their 30s reported missing in the last few days,” an officer who is part of the investigation said.
