Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has failed to pay premium for a mediclaim policy it had started for its employees, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Ghadi said on Friday.
The policy was started in 2015, and was renewed till July 2017 for a premium of ₹96 crore. “But thereafter, the BMC has failed to pay the premium, and over 1.5 lakh civic workers are without medical cover. The delay is owing to negotiations between the BMC and the insurance company. The company is demanding ₹147 crore as premium, but the BMC is ready to pay only ₹117 crore,” Mr. Ghadi told the standing committee.
His Sena colleague Rajul Patel said the BMC had also failed to pay class IV conservancy workers their special allowance.
