BMC for paper bags

March 28, 2018 11:50 pm | Updated 11:50 pm IST - Mumbai

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Wednesday created an action plan to implement the plastic ban. At a meeting between senior officers and Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta, it was decided to promote the use of cloth and paper bags by enlisting women self-help groups and facilitating sale of these bags at shops in municipal markets. Collection bins for plastic items will be put up in prominent public places.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner Nidhi Choudhari will select staff to implement the ban. “Our focus in the first month is on awareness, and collection of waste,” she said.
