BMC digitises PAP allotment process

In a bid to curb corruption, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has from Thursday, made the process of awarding tenements to Project Affected People online. The process has been linked to Aadhaar to ensure that only valid beneficiaries get the tenements.

In order to acquire land for development work, eligible people having homes, shops etc. on it are given alternative accommodation in the form of tenements while the ineligible establishments are demolished. These tenements are known to be poorly constructed. There have also been cases of beneficiaries being deprived of tenements

To resolve such issues, the BMC has ensured that every PAP will be registered on a portal, which will have a list of documents to be submitted and one PAP cannot be registered a second time. PAPs will be able to book a tenement online, after which they, in consultation with the ward office, will be allotted one within 30 days. Allotment letters will also be generated online, which will have a copy of the beneficiary’s Aadhar card for verification purposes. Only if the registration ID matches the one during allotment will they be given the tenement.
