Urge him to look for more evidence, book former CP

The husband and brother of murdered policewoman Ashwini Bidre met Sanjay Kumar, the new Commissioner of Navi Mumbai Police, on Thursday. They requested him that more evidence be gathered to prove the guilt of the alleged accused, police inspector Abhay Kurundkar.

They also requested him to book former commissioner Hemant Nagrale in the case. “He and other officers should be made co-accused for initially trying to suppress the case. It is because of them that the accused had ample time to tamper with evidence,” Raju Gore, Bidre’s husband, said.

Her brother, Anand Bidre, said more evidence could strengthen the case. “The murder weapon and body are yet to be found. Assistant Commissioner of Police Sangeeta Alphonso had made several attempts to find the body from Vasai creek. But as the attempts were not successful, we have requested Mr. Kumar to find another strategy to find the body,” Mr. Bidre said.

He added, “We have immense trust in the Commissioner because of his investigation in the Govind Pansare murder case. We believe he will apply the same skills in this case as well.”

They said statements of police officials on duty at Ghodbunder on the night of April 11, 2016, should be taken again. “Their statement says they were asked to look for a body in the creek, but there is no mention of the officer who had asked them to do so. Fishermen from the area have said around eight men came to search for the body. No mention of their mobile phone location is included in the charge sheet,” Mr. Gore said. They have requested Mr. Kumar to help them register Bidre’s death.

Mr. Kumar said, “I am yet to study the case file. Once I do so, I will be able to plan the strategy for further investigations.”
