Mumbai: A 29-year-old Bhojpuri actor, Anjali Srivastava, was found dead at her Andheri residence on Monday afternoon. According to the D.N. Nagar police, prima facie investigations point to a suicide.

The incident comes close on the heels of Kritika Chaudhary, a model and actor, being found murdered at her residence in Andheri last week. The Amboli police are conducting investigations.

The deceased has been identified as Anjali, a native of Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, who lived alone in Parimal Apartments in Juhu. “Anjali's family had been trying to reach her on phone, when there was no response to repeated calling, they called her landlord, who opened the door with his key. Anjali was found hanging from the ceiling fan by a saree,” said Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Rashmi Karandikar.

The landlord called the police, and Anjali was taken to Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle where she was declared dead before admission. “We are still ascertaining exactly when she took the extreme step. No suicide note was found and the motive behind the suicide is not yet clear,” said Ms. Karandikar.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Arun Chavan, D.N. Nagar police division, said investigations had not thrown up any indications of foul play. The police are now going through Anjali’s call records and speaking to her friends in the industry. She had acted in two Bhojpuri films and a Hindi TV serial.

“Anjali’s parents had come to Mumbai to stay with her and celebrated their wedding anniversary on June 6. We have contacted them and they are expected to reach Mumbai by Tuesday,” said an officer with D N Nagar police station.

On June 8, Anjali had uploaded some pictures on her Facebook account, with a Hindi verse signifying longing for a loved one, and the police are investigating to find out whether it has any connection to her death.
