Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) suffered losses of nearly ₹41.28 lakh due to the bandh declared by Maratha organisations on July 25. BEST faced the wrath of the protestors who damaged 25 buses in 21 separate incidents. The BEST administration revealed the losses incurred by the undertaking to the BEST committee on Tuesday.

In most cases, protestors damaged glass panes and windshields of buses or deflated tyres. Protestors in two separate incidents tried to burn a bus by hurling petrol bombs at Mankhurd. The damage amounted to ₹1.45 lakh.

The remaining losses, of ₹39.83 lakh, were a due to lower revenue, since several people chose to stay at home that day.

BEST also terminated services to Airoli and Vashi, after incidents of stone pelting were reported at around 6 a.m. at Koparkhairane. Buses were diverted on the instructions of local police as a preventive measure. At least 3,211 buses of the fleet of 3,238 were put into service on that day. The BEST administration had registered complaints regarding these incidents at the respective police stations.
