Pawar Public School (Bhandup), Podar International School (Powai) claim top prizes

The 19th edition of The Hindu Young World Quiz, saw the participation of students from several schools across the city.

The teams were divided into junior (Class IV to VI) and senior (Classes VII to IX) category. The event began with participants observing a two-minute silence as a mark of respect and remembrance for the brave soldiers who lost their lives in the recent Pulwama attacks.

The quiz, presented by Kokuyo Camlin and powered by Eveready Industries, was held at the Bombay Stock Exchange over the weekend.

The preliminary commenced with a written round for the Junior category with 25 questions. The top six teams, comprising of two members each, were chosen and called on stage to play the final round that consisted of general knowledge questions put to them in an audio-visual format on the screen. In the junior category Soham Pednekar and Varun Sinha (Class V) from Pawar Public School, Bhandup, emerged winners. Aditya Srinivasan and Neerav Biyani (Class VI) from S.K.K.E.S, Mulund bagged the second position while Riddhima Vashistha and Jatin Mirchanda (Class VI) from G.D. Somani Memorial School, Cuffe Parade came third.

In the senior category, six teams were chosen to pit against each other and the quiz master brought in unconventional questions like the grid maze that had a picture of M.S. Dhoni appearing on the massive screen and revealing just a portion of his face. Most of the teams guessed it right. Aditya Padhi and Aman Palinal (Class IX) from Podar International School, Powai, secured the first position. Adit Gard and Arnav Gowda (Class VIII) from Navy Children School, Colaba came second, while the third position was bagged by Adwait Lad and Soham Mishra (Class IX) from Thakur Vidya Mandir High School, Kandivali.

Chief guest Dipali Masirkar, DCP Zone I, encouraged students to continue to read more knowledgeable publications like The Hindu in School products. Other guests who distributed the prizes included Umesh Sathaye and Mahesh Pawar from Eveready Industries, Dr. Srinivasan, Professor, JBIMS, and Prof. Padmavathy S. from SIWS.

The winners were awarded with trophies, merit-certificates and gift bags from Kokuyo Camlin, Eveready and Soulfull and gift hampers from UNIBIC. Arrow Publications was the Knowledge Partner.
