Friday became the hottest July day in Mumbai’s history at 36.2 degrees Celsius, breaking the previous high of 34.8 degrees, according to the weather office.
The revival of heat and humidity can be attributed to the break in monsoon for the last week or so with the city experiencing increased temperatures. On Friday, many Mumbaikars complained of a harsh sun, with some going back to caps and umbrellas to shield themselves.
The 36.2 degrees recorded today is six degrees above normal. The previous hight of 34.8 degrees was in this month was recorded on July 22, 1960. The highest maximum temperature in the last decade in July has hovered between 31 and 33 degrees.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature recorded on Friday was 26.6 degrees Celsius, which is normal according to the weather office.
