Alstom bags contract for Metro 3 rolling stock

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited awarded the contract to procure rolling stock for the 33-km-long Metro 3 project to the consortium of Alstom Transport India Ltd and Alstom Transport S.A. France.

The company will provide 248 coaches, 31 train sets of eight cars each, and design, manufacture, supply, install, test and commission the sets.

To cater to heavy passenger traffic and improve frequency of trains, the rolling stock will be equipped with Communication Based Train Control System, which enables unmanned train operations.

Each train will be 180 metres long and 3.2 metres wide and will accommodate 2,350 passengers, with each coach having a seating capacity of 300.
