9 a.m. to 11 a.m
The first incidents of violence were reported at 5.45 a.m. in Koparkhairne-Ghansoli, when protestors pelted stones at BEST buses. Services were suspended to Vashi and Koparkhairne. The mob then vandalised three auto rickshaws at Koparkhairane around 8 a.m., and targeted a Mercedes car in Vashi at 10 a.m. before staging a rasta roko at Shivaji Chowk, Vashi. The mob then blocked the traffic on Sion-Panvel highway. Eleven buses were damaged until 11 a.m.
Rail rokos were attempted at Jogeshwari, Thane and Ghansoli. A protest march was staged in Dadar from Chitra Cinema till Sena Bhavan.
Around 10.30 a.m., a Thane Municipal Transport Corporation bus was stopped at Malad Talkies.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Protesters blocked the south-bound traffic on the Western Express Highway near Borivali. They also tried to block traffic on Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road near IIT Bombay.
More BEST buses were damaged, with protestors trying to burn one on Vashi bridge. Others were damaged due to stone pelting at Kashigaon in Mira Road, Vashi bus station, Nitin Company in Thane, and at Kamani in Kurla.
At Ghansoli station, protesters staged another rail roko at 12.25 p.m. In Navi Mumbai, the police had to use pump action gun to fire at the mob.
1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The protests at Ghansoli station continued in a peaceful manner. Around 2.30 p.m., Central Railway (CR) decided to suspend all services on the Trans-Harbour Line.
Agitators tried to burn a BEST bus at Mankhurd at 1.30 p.m. In Thane, two BEST buses had their windshields broken.
Taxi drivers had also been stopped from travelling to Thane station, Cadbury junction and Nitin Company. School buses and ambulances were allowed.
3 p.m. onwards
The protest at Ghansoli station was finally called off at 4.30 p.m. and services resumed at 5 p.m. Fifty-six services had to be cancelled.
The BEST ran 3,211 buses of which 25 were damaged.
Around 5 p.m., when there was another round of stone pelting and the Navi Mumbai police had to use tear gas to disperse the crowd. Throughout the day, the onion-potato market, grain market and masala market at APMC was closed. The afternoon shift schools had declared holiday.
By evening, people started coming out for their evening shopping thinking that the protest was over, but suddenly there was a violent mob, pelting stones and vandalising vehicles. Three police officers including Deputy Commisioner of Police Rajesh Bansode recived injuries in Koparkhairane and around 10 men were detained in combing operation that went on till 8 p.m. The situation came under control around 9 p.m.
Ola cabs and autos were unavailable in Thane region. Local shops were also forced to close down. Though the bandh was called off at 2.45 p.m. vehicles and shops in Thane reopened around 5 p.m.
