Actor Mahesh Anand found dead at home

Mahesh Anand, a Hindi film actor from the 1990s, was found dead at his Versova home on Saturday.

According to the Versova police, Anand, who played negative roles in many films, lived alone in Kinara Apartments on Yari Road. Around 4.30 p.m. on Saturday, his maid reached his house as per her daily routine. When repeated knocking and ringing of the doorbell did not elicit any response, she alerted his neighbours, who called the police control room.

A police team reached the spot and broke open the door to find Anand lying motionless, a bottle of liquor and a half-filled glass by his side. “Anand was rushed to Cooper Hospital, where he was declared dead before admission. There were no external injuries on the body, nor did we find any note or signs that he might have committed suicide. We are awaiting the post-mortem report for the cause of death,” senior police inspector Ravindra Badguzar said.

A black belt in karate, Anand was a model before he started acting. His last on-screen appearance was in the 2019 comedy-drama Rangeela Raja directed by Sikander Bharti, starring Govinda among others.
