Actor Ajaz Khan (37), a former Bigg Boss contestant, was arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Navi Mumbai Police on Monday night for allegedly possessing eight ecstasy pills, a banned drug, a police official said on Tuesday.

2.30 grams recovered

A team led by Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Budhwant arrested Mr. Khan, a resident of Versova, from K Star Hotel at Sector 11 in CBD Belapur. Mr. Budhwant said, “We found eight ecstasy pills, also called love pills, in a transparent pouch in his pocket. The seized pills weighed 2.30 grams and are worth ₹2.20 lakh. If the quantity was above 10 grams then it would have been a more serious case as it could have been used for commercial purposes.”

According to the police, the pills, also called MDMA drug, causes hallucinations and altered sensations, and boosts energy, empathy and pleasure. The police said owing to these effects, the drug is mostly consumed during sexual intercourse. Tushar Doshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, said, “We are looking into the source of the drugs.”

Mr. Khan was arrested and booked under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. He was produced before the Belapur court on Tuesday and his advocate submitted before the court that Mr. Khan was innocent. He claimed that two girls who met Mr. Khan at the hotel had asked him for an autograph and in turn gave a gift which had pills. The court remanded Mr. Khan in police custody till Thursday.

‘I am being framed’

Addressing the media, Mr. Khan said, “I am being framed for speaking against the government. This is case had been planted.” After Mr. Khan’s arrest a message was posted in Hindi on his Twitter timeline: ‘A conspiracy has been hatched against me. No drugs has been seized from me. If I stop telling the truth, I can be a good man for the government. I will give up my life for the country but won’t stop telling truth’.

When asked on how Mr. Khan could tweet while he was in custody, Mr. Budhwant said a friend or a relative might be using Mr. Khan’s Twitter handle.
