The Mumbai Fire Brigade continued its crackdown on establishments flouting fire safety norms on Friday. It ordered that the electric and water connection of 17 hotels in Kurla be disconnected for the same.

In December, ahead of New Year’s Eve, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the fire brigade had carried out joint inspections and found violations in several commercial establishments.

On Friday, in an inspection in L Ward, covering Kurla and Sakinaka, 17 hotels were found in violation of safety norms. These include Sunlight Guest House, Hotel Sanjari Palace, Hotel Royal Residency, Hotel BKC Palace, Hotel Pearl View. Many of them are located on LBS Road.

“We had received a complaint against the hotels last year and had issued notices around three months ago. We had given them time to comply with norms, but they did not,” said Uttam Bhagat, station officer, Mankhurd fire station. The notices were issued as per Section 8, sub-clause 2 (a) (b) of Fire Act. Most of the hotels did not have a fire no-objection certificate, while some had no firefighting installation.
