30-year-old snatched mobile, laptop bag of woman passenger

The Vashi Government Railway Police (GRP) have arrested a man wanted in a six-year-old theft case.

Based on a tip-off, Taufeek Rafeek Khateeb (30) was arrested at the CBD court on Wednesday. Senior police inspector Nandakishore Saste said, “The case was registered in 2013 and the accused’s partner was arrested and convicted. Mr. Khateeb said he fled to Shil village and earned a living by driving an autorickshaw. We are yet to verify his claims.”

On March 15, 2013, Govandi resident Purnimadevi Mudaliyar boarded a Nerul-bound local at Turbhe at 7.50 p.m. While she was standing near the coach’s door, her cell phone fell off the moving train. Ms. Mudaliyar and her friend then alighted at Juinagar station and started searching for the phone near the tracks. On retrieving the phone, they started walking towards Turbhe station. At this time, Mr. Khateeb and his partner, Shafeek Rafeeq Shaikh (19), snatched her phone and laptop bag and fled. Ms. Mudaliyar then filed a complaint with the Vashi (GRP).
