More trouble is brewing for senior NCP leader and former Public Works Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and his family as the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau on Thursday filed a fresh case of cheating and forgery against him and 17 others in connection with the alleged irregularities in awarding contracts for the construction of Maharashtra Sadan in Delhi, and the RTO Complex in Mumbai.
The accused include Mr. Bhujbal’s son Pankaj and nephew Sameer, a former MP. They were booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code including 420 (cheating) 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) and 468 (cheating) besides slapping provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Misuse of positionThe contracts were awarded during Mr. Bhujbal’s tenure as a PWD Minister and it is alleged that he misused his position.
