With the decisive victory of Aaditya Thackeray, there are speculations that the Thackeray scion may become Maharashtra’s youngest deputy chief minister. The 29-year-old made his electoral debut from Worli.
While the Shiv Sena has time and again positioned him as the Chief Ministerial candidate, media reports have quoted CM Devendra Fadnavis saying that they will be happy to offer him the post of deputy CM. Mr. Thackeray, however, has always maintained silence whether he has been aiming at the top post in the State. To date, Maharashtra has seen most deputy CMs taking charge in their 50’s.

The historic win of Mr. Thackeray was marked with a series of celebrations in the Marathi-dominated area. Early in the day, local youth and party workers gathered to cheer for the young leader with drum beats, firecrackers, and sweets.
Mr. Thackeray visited the counting centre in Worli where a large crowd was already there to congratulate him. He requested them to come to the Sena Bhavan where he thanked everyone for the support and refrained from making any political statement. Many Sena leaders had also reached there to celebrate his victory.
He made a stop at Lower Parel to receive greetings of people. “People can share their problems with him directly as he is also very active on social media. I am confident that he will work for the youth and on one of their main concerns: unemployment. He is very keen to take up other social issues and development,” Yuva Sena member Abhijeet Patil said.
“He has taken students’ issues to Mantralaya and now he will do the same for Worli and the entire Maharashtra. It was a dream of every Marathi manoos that one of their own people, a Thackeray, should come into power and that dream has come true,” Mr. Patil said.
“As an youth icon, he will attract more youngsters to the party. The party will become a young people’s party now. At present, we are seeing many young female members joining the Yuva Sena, which a positive development. This will also lead to appointments of new and young faces in various party positions,” he said.
Another party worker, Aakarshika Patil, said, “Mr. Thackeray has worked for people even when he had no post in the government. We can see the progress of Mumbai University after his party won the senate elections. So it’s a good thing that he chose Worli constituency. We believe that he will work a lot for the youngsters in the area as well as the entire city.”
Parel resident Shubham Pathak is ecstatic by the junior Thackeray’s win. “His Jan Ashirwad Yatra speaks a lot about his focus and the way he wants to serve people. Now as an MLA from Worli, he will change the face of the constituency.”
